Harward Street Pump Station & Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project – Community Update March 2026

Work Completed Last Month

Construction activity increased throughout March as sewer installation and supporting activities advanced along Washington Street and in cross-country areas. Crews continued ledge removal and blasting operations between Winship Street and Washington Street, while progressing installation of new 24” sewer pipe along Washington Street near the Harward Street Pump Station.

Preparations for the railroad crossing at Dike Newell School advanced, including delivery of casing pipe and excavation of the launch pit on the south side of the railroad near Dike Newell School. Crews have completed augering underneath the railroad track to install the new sewer line on 3/25.

A temporary bypass pumping system was finalized and placed into operation to maintain uninterrupted sewer service during construction. Coordination with nearby homeowners continued throughout the month to address drainage, driveway access, and erosion control concerns.

What’s Next

In addition, installation of the new 36-inch sewer pipe is expected to begin between CSO SMH 133 off the shoulder of Washington Street, and continue down Washington to SMH 137 in front of the Harward Street Pump Station. Railroad casing installation beneath the rail corridor is near complete.

Work in the coming weeks will focus on continued sewer installation along Washington Street near Harward Street. Bypass pumping is expected to remain in operation for several weeks while new sewer pipe is installed along Washington Street.

Crooker plans to complete blasting of ledge between Washington Street and Winship Street by the end of March, weather and subsurface conditions permitting. Notification will continue to be provided to affected residents in advance of blasting operations. Please contact the City or the Resident Project Representative for questions regarding upcoming blasting activities.

Initial construction of the pump station flood wall is anticipated to begin in April.

Traffic & Neighborhood Impacts

As sewer installation work progresses, residents may notice increased construction activity, including heavy equipment, blasting operations, and work within easement areas. Temporary traffic impacts are expected, particularly along Washington Street, where detours and lane closures will remain in place for the next few weeks to allow Crooker to safely complete sewer installation.

The City, contractor, and project team will continue coordinating directly with affected homeowners regarding driveway access, erosion control, landscaping, and property-specific concerns.

Looking Ahead

Once ledge removal and initial sewer installation are complete, sewer pipe installation work will continue upstream along the cross-country sewer alignment off of Washington Street. Major construction activities at the pump station site itself are still anticipated to begin later this year, with building construction currently scheduled for early summer.

The City of Bath, Wright-Pierce, and the contractor will continue working closely together to minimize disruptions and keep residents informed as construction progresses. Additional updates will be shared regularly as milestones are reached.
