Harward Street Pump Station & Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project – Community Update September 2026

Work Completed Last Month

Construction continued to progress throughout August on the Harward Street Pump Station & Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project. Sewer interceptor installation advanced along High Street toward Denny Road, with crews completing installation and testing through SMH 117 at the corner of Denny and High. Work in this area discovered challenging soft clay conditions, requiring the crew to pause work and evaluate additional shoring and dewatering systems to safely continue construction. These options will be reviewed prior to implementation.

Additional sewer and site work was completed throughout the project area. The replacement of Catch Basin 1273 at the intersection of Denny Road and High Street was completed and all sewer connections and catch basin replacements on Winship Street have been completed. CCTV inspection of recently installed sewer infrastructure between Park Street and Winship Street was also completed.

At the pump station, the concrete flood wall was successfully poured and passed concrete testing. Work also continued on coordination and preparation for upcoming pump station improvements, including flood door fabrication, masonry work, and interior building work.

What’s Next

Once the additional shoring and dewatering systems on Denny Road are in place, sewer interceptor installation will continue along Denny Road toward SMH 116 and SMH 115 before turning toward the next cross-country section. Phase 4 of the temporary sewer bypass plan is now in place, including traffic control near High Street. Work will continue on the CSO structure, including installation of the new slide gate. Site restoration will also continue along Park Street and Winship Street, with cleanup, grading, and hydroseeding planned between Washington Street and Winship Street.

At the pump station, the Contractor is preparing to begin interior building work in September. Masonry work is currently anticipated to begin in late September or early October, and pump station bypass operations are anticipated to begin in October. A temporary utility pole is planned for installation the week of August 31.

Traffic & Neighborhood Impacts

Residents should continue to expect construction-related noise, truck traffic, and temporary traffic control as sewer installation progresses along Denny Road and High Street. Denny Road and High Street will remain open to local traffic only while construction continues in these areas.

The project team will continue coordinating with affected residents regarding driveway access, property restoration, landscaping, utility connections, and other property-specific concerns throughout construction.

Looking Ahead

Construction remains on schedule, with substantial completion of the overall project anticipated in March 2027. The immediate focus will be on advancing the sewer interceptor installation through the Denny Road section while preparing for the next phase of pump station construction.

The City of Bath, Wright-Pierce, and Crooker Construction will continue working closely together to advance construction, minimize disruptions, and keep residents informed as the project progresses. Additional updates will be provided as key project milestones are reached.
