Harward Street Pump Station & Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project – Community Update August 2026

Work Completed Last Month

Construction continued to make steady progress throughout July on the Harward Street Pump Station & Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project. Sewer interceptor installation advanced through the Park Street area, with crews continuing installation of the 36-inch sewer main toward SMH 120, located in the cross-country area in between Park Street and High Street. Work also included sewer service tie-ins for properties on Park Street, sewer adjustments on Winship Street, and continued excavation through areas of challenging soil conditions using revised trench support and stabilization methods.

Testing and inspection activities continued on newly installed sewer infrastructure. Winship Street was reopened to traffic following completion of water main work, and cleanup and restoration activities continued throughout the Winship Street corridor.

At the pump station site, T. Buck Construction officially mobilized on June 1 and began construction of the new flood protection wall surrounding the existing pump station. The flood protection wall involves a new concrete structure to help protect the pump station building from flooding of the Kennebec River.

What’s Next

Over the next several weeks, sewer interceptor installation will continue toward High Street. New temporary sewer bypassing will be implemented to ensure continued conveyance of wastewater during construction. As construction approaches High Street and Denny Road, additional traffic control measures will be implemented to ensure safe passage of vehicles around the work.

Site restoration activities will continue with grading, hydroseeding, and adjustment of roadway structures throughout the completed portions of the project (between Washington Street and Park Street). The project team is also working toward reinstating sewer services on Winship Street. Looking ahead, the Contractor hopes to begin paving Washington Street, Park Street, and Winship Street in the next few months during a single paving operation to minimize disruption to residents.

At the pump station, additional work on the flood wall is scheduled in preparation of masonry work. Coordination with flood door manufacturers and electrical equipment suppliers will continue throughout the summer. Interior building work is anticipated to begin in September, followed by pump station bypass operations later this fall.

Traffic & Neighborhood Impacts

Residents should continue to expect construction-related noise, truck traffic, and temporary traffic control throughout the Park Street and High Street areas as sewer installation progresses. Traffic control will continue on Park Street, with the road re-opening on nights and weekends after construction hours. While Winship Street has reopened to traffic, one more temporary lane closure and detour will be required as the contractor finalizes installing sewer services.

The project team will continue coordinating directly with affected residents regarding driveway access, utility connections, landscaping restoration, and other property-specific concerns throughout construction.

Looking Ahead

Construction remains on schedule, with the underground sewer interceptor installation targeted for completion by fall 2026, with substantial completion at the pump station anticipated in March 2027. Work will continue to focus on advancing the interceptor installation while major pump station improvements progress simultaneously.

The City of Bath, Wright-Pierce, and Crooker Construction will continue working closely together to minimize disruptions and keep residents informed as construction progresses. Additional updates will be shared as key project milestones are reached.
